Alec Barrow
CMHC

Alec enjoys life and connecting with others. Through both personal experience and professional training, he has learned that our mental well-being can be affected by life’s challenges and the dynamics of our most meaningful relationships. Inspired by the Buddhist teaching, “No Mud, No Lotus,” Alec believes that our ability to thrive and find joy is rooted in the struggles and heartaches we encounter.

In therapy, Alec uses research based methods to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore, process, and ultimately grow through life’s challenges and complex relationships—not in spite of them.

Alec grew up in Northern California, Kentucky, and Utah. He is professionally trained as an educator and spent 30 years teaching high school and university students. After retiring from teaching, Alec transitioned from part-time to full-time mental health counseling. As a father of five and grandfather to three, Alec experiences his own family dynamics. He enjoys traveling, often hopping on a plane to explore new places and meet new people. Whether hiking a city, a mountain, or a coastal trail, Alec thrives on discovering new thoughts, foods, books, films, and live theater.

Alec’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Italian Literature and History from BYU (1995), a Master’s in Education from Southern Utah University (1999), and a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Phoenix (2017).
