Who Suffers from Anxiety?

Millions of people in the U.S. experience anxiety every year; in fact, it is the most common mental health diagnosis, affecting almost 20% of adults in America every year. It is also increasingly common among children, affecting almost 32% of adolescents age 13 to 18. It’s also highly treatable for most people, but only about 37% of those suffering from anxiety get treatment, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA).

Sometimes these worrisome thoughts and fears can become so overwhelming that they make it hard for you to function in your daily life. Anxiety can take many forms, including:

  • Panic attacks
  • Phobias
  • Social anxiety
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Constant worrying

Therapy is an effective treatment for anxiety (either along with medication or in place of it), because it can help you become aware of and understand why you are experiencing certain feelings or thoughts, and learn strategies that will help you overcome those fears. Anxiety therapy can help you look at situations in new ways so you can cope with what is happening and overcome your anxiety.

A Tailored Approach to Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety presents itself differently in everyone, which is why there is no one-size-fits-all approach to treating it. Therapy offers a tailored treatment approach to address your specific symptoms and diagnosis.

Anxiety therapy can also go for as long—or as short—as you need to see improvement. For some people, a weekly session for two to three months might be enough, while others will need ongoing sessions for several months or even years. Each treatment session is designed around you and your diagnosis so we can identify what you are experiencing and find the right tools to move forward.

Our counselors in South Jordan, Utah use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and mind-body bridging techniques to help you examine your anxiety, phobias, fears, compulsions, and other behaviors. Then we discuss effective tools and techniques that allow you to examine them in different ways, becoming aware of things that may trigger anxiety or make it worse, and learn how to lower anxiety levels, overcome fears, and calm your mind. Many studies have proven the effectiveness of these treatments for anxiety and related mental health issues.
